February 2, 2011 – As part of Art Rush on Thursday, Salina Public Library will feature music by local musician Matt Matthews and his band, “Troubled Times” from 5-7 p.m. in the library’s lobby.
A reception for artist James Deckert will be held in Café Choices Gallery, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit will remain through March 10.
Deckert’s exhibit, “Friends, Family and Eyes” features watercolor, graphite, pencil and combinations of the three media. He said, “Light and shadow, texture and detail: all are toys to be played with by the artist when choosing what to use and what to abolish in an attempt to get the viewer to look where the artist desires, and convinces the bystander that he is seeing something that is not there.”
“Troubled Times” is a Salina-based, 3-piece blues and contemporary group. The three members are Matt Matthews, percussion; Amos Vega, guitar and vocals; and Mike Miller, bass. Recently, “Troubled Times” performed at The Stiefel Theater for the Performing Arts benefit for Haiti. They are planning a fundraising concert for the American Cancer Society.
Refreshments will be served at both events.
