Bethany College hires wrestling coach for fall 2011

Bethany College hires Jacob Marrs to coach its new wrestling program. Bethany is the first college in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and one of three private institutions in Kansas to have a wrestling program.

Marrs comes to Bethany from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he previously served as an assistant wrestling coach and strength and conditioning coach for wrestling, baseball, and football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in health and physical education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he is currently pursuing his masters of science in exercise science. Marrs wrestled at Clay Center Community High School, where he won the Kansas 4A State Championship as a junior. During his college wrestling career, Marrs was a three-time Academic All-American and a three-time Wrestling All-American.

Athletic Director Jon Daniels says, “We’re excited about having Jacob join our athletic staff. We have heard tremendous things about him from other coaches across Kansas, and we are very fortunate to have him. I look forward to watching the success of the wrestling program and look forward to a day when they are competing for championships.”

Bethany will partner with Smoky Valley High School to use its new facility.  Daniels says, “We are excited to embrace the wrestling community and that we have the ability to add another dimension to our athletic programs. We have had many Bethany alumni go on to become wrestling coaches so it would be great to tie them back to Bethany and the athletic program.”
