MINNEAPOLIS – Bring 108 cars to Minneapolis Raceway and mix in a change of direction from the wind and add a heaping cup of warmer temperatures would give you all the right ingredients for fans to enjoy a great night of racing.
The 5 car classes on hand, including 29 Stock Cars for the Stock Car Shootout, provided another enjoyable night of competition at the Minneapolis Raceway on a fast and smooth track. The missing ingredients to the recipe for many fans weren’t provided by Mother Nature, but those who came thoroughly enjoyed the results.
The touring Stock Car Shootout, the brain child of Matt Kvacik, came to Minneapolis Raceway with $1000.00 on the line and the largest car count for the Bank of Tescott IMCA Stock Car class in the 6 year history of Minneapolis Raceway. If you are a Stock Car racing aficionado, this was the place to be. Throughout the Heat races along with the B and A Features, the competition for the $1000.00 purse was intense and exciting. With all of that said, the winning of the $1000.00 purse had a lot to do with starting position from the draw/redraw, driving skill and no mechanical failures. Dustin Daniels of Colby benefited from all three to take the checkered flag on this night. Daniels drew the inside pole position while last weeks Feature winner, Terry Franz, drew the outside. Daniels jumped to an early lead over Franz and never looked back, maintaining a slim lead that grew to several car lengths by the end of the race. Throughout five caution restarts including three on the first lap, Daniels meshed his driving skills with good luck and came away with the $1000.00 purse. Josh Hudson who started on row 3, Jeff Joldersma who started on row 9, and Jason Schoenburger who started on row 5, proved their skill as drivers to finish 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively in the 24 car field in this 20 lap Feature. Joldersma won the “B” Feature while Daniels, Schoenburger, Hudson, and Pat Bedore won the Heat races. Plenty of pageantry was provided before the Feature as the drivers drove two parade laps, 4 abreast with each holding a U.S. Flag under a fireworks display.
All-American Towing Mod-Lite Series
Former Hobby Stock Champion BJ Dauer got the inside pole position start in this Feature after 3 weeks of bad luck to open the season. Dauer jumped to the lead and survived two early caution restarts while last weeks winner, Tyler Bradshaw moved into second position. Unfortunately for Dauer, he didn’t survive the 3rd caution restart of the Feature, leaving the track due to mechanical failure. Bradshaw assumed the front position as Dauer eased into the pits. For the remainder of the race through 4 more restarts, Justin Kinderkenecht worked his way to the front from his 5th row starting position and started a challenge of Bradshaw. Kinderkenecht proved that the low groove works throughout this resurgence and stayed there to pass Bradshaw on the inside of the backstretch during the last lap. Bradshaw wasn’t able to recoup the lead as Kinderkenecht captured his first checkered flag at Minneapolis Raceway this season and maintained his points lead in the division. This was Kinderkenecht’s fifth career feature win. Dauer and Corbin Pickerill won the Heat races.
Coors Lite Hobby Stocks
Chris Pollet took an early lead from his 2nd row starting position in this Feature. Brendon Stigge was able to work his way into contention from his 3rd row starting position and passed Pollet in the 7th lap. The only caution restart of the race occurred in the following lap with Adam Armstrong sitting in the 5th position having worked his way up from a 5th row starting position. With 3 laps remaining, Armstrong moved into 2nd position, followed closely by Mike Traskowsky. Now the stage was set to see if Armstrong could pull off his 4th successive Feature win of the season as he challenged Stigge for the lead. However, Stigge successfully held off his friend from Beatrice, Nebraska and captured his 1st Feature win at the Minneapolis Raceway, after 2 second place finishes to Armstrong. Winners of the Heat races were Armstrong and Traskowsky.
Casey’s General Store IMCA Modifieds
After experiencing frustration during the first two weeks of the season, defending champion Corey Lagroon started on the front row for a third straight week. Last week he used that position to cruise to a win. Deja Vue in week four of the 2011 season. Through five caution restarts, Lagroon held off all challengers to win by a healthy margin. Points leader Danny Morrison Jr. worked his way up from a 5th row starting position to finish 2nd in the Feature. This checkered flag marked Lagroon’s 8th career win at the Minneapolis Raceway. The Heat race winners were Brandon Blochlinger, Goeff Jermark, and Bobby Bills.
T&R Dirt Construction IMCA Sportsman Modifieds
With the largest car count of the night, the Sportsman Modifieds took to the track for their Feature. Last week’s winner, Tyler Frye began the Feature on the 9th row after qualifying by winning the “B” Feature. Dan Smith moved to an early lead out of the front row but surrendered the lead out of the 3rd caution restart to a hard charging Jason Nelssen. Bryan Lariviere worked his way up from a 5th row starting position and then passed Nelssen with 14 laps remaining. For the next 7 laps the two dueled for the lead with Lariviere maintaining the advantage. Frye had moved up to 6th position when 3 consecutive caution restarts occurred with 7 laps remaining. Frye quickly moved to 3rd position but was unable to pass Nelssen in the remaining laps. Lariviere finished the race with a several car length lead, capturing his 2nd Feature win of the season, and 13th at the Minneapolis Raceway in two classes. Lariviere, Nelssen, Josh Rice and Jacob Krone won the Heat races.
Next Saturday, May 21st, Full House racing returns to the Minneapolis Raceway with all 6 classes scheduled to race. The Pit gates open at 4pm, followed by the Grandstand Gates opening at 5pm. Hot Laps will start at 6pm followed by Green Flag racing at 7pm.
