Kansas Universities Seek Tuition Increases

TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) — Public universities in Kansas want to raise their tuition for most students this fall.

The state Board of Regents released a summary of the proposals Wednesday, a day before school officials were to present them publicly.

The regents oversee state universities, community colleges and technical colleges and set tuition rates every year.

Undergraduates from outside Kansas attending the University of Kansas would see the biggest increase if they’re not in a program in which they promise to graduate in four years.

Their tuition would jump from $9,075 to $9,750 for a full-time course load of 15 hours, an increase of 7.4 percent.

But Fort Hays State University is proposing no increase for its non-Kansas students.
