Discarded Cigarette And Roman Candle Start Fires In County

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office reports two fires in the county Thursday evening.

About 10pm in the 1900 block of E. North, a resident who lives in the area saw a pickup going down the road, with someone holding a roman candle out the window.

A small fire was started in the ditch and the resident promplty contacted authorities. When they went back outside the pickup, an older model Ranger pickup and car had returned. The occupants got out and stomped out the small fire and left.

A deputy found a used roman candle in the road.

Then, around 8:40 pm, Saline County Rural Fire District #2 reported to the 11900 block of S. Lamer Road to the report of a grass fire. Crews put out the fire, that is believed t0 have been started by a discarded cigarette.
