Update: an ember or ash from fireworks is believed to have been the cause of the grass fire near Brenda Lane and County Club Road Thursday afternoon.

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said deputies on patrol in the area, saw smoke and then the fire, and used a garden hose to prevent the fire from getting close to buildings, before rural fire fighters arrived and put out the fire.

A youngster had been discharging fireworks in on a concrete slab away from where the fire began about a half hour before the fire was discovered.

Shortly before 4 PM a large grass fire was reported near E. Country Club Road and Brenda Lane.

The large fire is reportedly under control now, but was approaching two homes when fire crews arrived on the scene.

E. Country Club road has been closed due to heavy smoke.
