The Saline County Commission has issued a ban on outdoor burning until it is rescinded by the commission.
During the month of July there were 87 accidental fires reported in Saline County. Those are fires that were started by sparks from equipment, discarded cigarettes, fireworks, and lightning.
Even with controlled burns called in and approved, rural fire districts still had to respond to extinguished, controlled burns that got out of control.
Saline County has had just over 11 1/2 inches of moisture so far in 2012, which is more than 8 1/2 inches below normal.
Outdoor burning of trash, vegetation, and buildings are prohibited until the ban is lifted.
