Joel Embiid, a 7-foot, 220-pound senior center from The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla., has orally committed to play basketball at Kansas University. Embiid announced his decision via his twitter account this morning. Embiid reportedly chose Kansas over Florida and Texas. Embiid, who is currently unranked by Rivals.com, in large part because he has played organized basketball for just over one year, began playing at one of Luc Richard Mbah a Moute’s basketball camps in Cameroon when he was 16.

Embiid is projected to show in the next Rivals.com 100 somewhere around the 50-75 range. With this commitment, Bill Self adds yet another piece to a 2013 recruiting class that should rank first or second in the nation. The Jayhawks do battle tonight versus Michigan State at 6:00 pm.
