Salina Man Caught In The Act Of Burglary Of Neighbor’s Home Wednesday

shinnA Salina man caught in the act of breaking into a neighbor’s home Wednesday afternoon, has been charged with the burglaries of two other homes in addition to stealing a wheelbarrow from a Salina business.

25-year-old Jared Bushnell arrived at his home in the 700 block of S. 10th about 4:20 PM Wednesday afternoon, to find a neighbor from across the street, 34-year-old Jonathan Shinn, inside his home gathering up several items that included $160 in cash, a .38 caliber handgun, and knife. Shinn also had a bag with a camera laptop and tablet inside that he was planning to take.

After being confronted, Shinn left the home without any of the stolen items and police arrived and began searching for him.

While continuing to look for Shinn, officers with a search warrant, went to Shinn’s home and found items that were taken in burglaries on December 5th and January 3rd in the 700 block of S. 10th.

At around 11pm Wednesday night, police were called to the area of the 4-H building on the report of a subject matching the description of Shinn, with a wheelbarrow looking in vehicles.

Police did not find anyone in the area.

Police were then called back to Shinn’s home a short time later where they found him with a wheelbarrow and other items that had been taken from Water’s Tru Value on S. Ohio.

Shinn was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of aggravated burglary, 2-counts of burglary, 3-counts of theft over $1,000, 3-counts of damage to property, criminal use of a weapon and trespassing.

Police continue to investigate to see if Shinn might have been involved in other burglaries.
