LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) – Kansas didn’t have a single wide receiver score a touchdown last season, so it makes sense that an overhaul of the passing game would be in order this spring.
Jayhawks coach Charlie Weis has been working to install a new quarterback in former BYU starter Jake Heaps, who had to sit out last season while redshirting – and was forced to watch as Notre Dame transfer Dayne Crist struggled mightily and the Jayhawks finished 1-11.
Heaps is No. 1 on the depth chart entering Saturday’s spring game. He says the Jayhawks can’t worry about last year.
Along with a new quarterback, the Jayhawks are trying to find someone dependable he can throw the ball to, and that means tinkering with their most successful offensive group: running backs.
