A 17-year old Salina resident in the Saline County Juvenile Detention Center on several charges including aggravated robbery, now facing a charge of aggravated battery following an incident Tuesday morning in the detention center.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski says Joshua Fairbanks was somehow able to get a hold of a metal detector wand and hide it, until he used it to hit another 17-year old male inmate of the detention center in the back of his head about 10:15am.

Sheriff Kochanowski said the attack was unprovoked and the victim suffered a small cut on his head.

The metal detector wand was damaged. Damage estimated at $200.
