Release From Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski Sunday morning 10:49am:
Deputies received a report of a shooting victim being transported to SRHC via family vehicle. Upon arrival at the hospital they met the Brummett family and found out that Gavin Brummett 7 had been seriously wounded with a gun shot to the head. Gavin had been with his brothers and his father Rodney Lee Brummett Jr shooting a Master Piece Arms semi-automatic 9 mm handgun. Rodney Brummett advised his son was shooting the gun and he heard two rapid in succession shots and when he looked at Gavin he observed the injury and immediately rushed him to the hospital. Gavin was transported from SRHC to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita where he died from his injuries at 6:44pm on 4/13/2013. The case is still being investigated and we are awaiting the results of an autopsy that will be performed 4/15/2013.
UPDATEThe 7-year-old boy passed away Saturday evening in Wichita. Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski says there will be a media release concerning the case later Sunday.
More information is expected to be released Monday morning by Sheriff Glen Kochanowski concerning a 7 year old boy being shot Friday evening around 6:00pm in the northeast part of Saline County.
Exact details of what happened are not being released at this time as the investigation continues.
Investigator Tim Hoesli with the Saline County Sheriffs Office said the boy was shot with a handgun. He was taken to Salina Regional Health Center and then taken by plane to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. The boy is in critical condition in the hospital ICU.
