Another Myth About Why People are Buying Firearms
Some have and are saying the reason there has been a surge in firearms purchases over the last 5 years or so is because of the citizens desire to protect themselves from private violate crime. I believe this is a myth.
Violent crime in this country, including “mass killings”, has been falling and significantly over the last several decades. There has been increased coverage (hype) by the media of more recent violent events which might account for some increase of firearms purchases by the uninformed but such certainly does not account for the majority of the increase in “Arms” purchases.
A good pistol and shotgun more than makes you ready for the average private criminal event. You do not need a dozen firearms or more for the average private violent event. It most certainly does not account for the enormous increase in the amount of ammunition being purchased by citizens over the last several years. A few boxes of cartridges and shells more than prepares you for a private violent event. One does not need hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of rounds to protect against a private violent event.
What has been driving the sales increases of firearms (and ammo) by the citizens of this country is the citizens’ fear of their government. The fear the federal government will continue its attempts to strip them of their pre-Constitutional duty to own “Arms”. Their fear of why the government would want to strip them of their “Arms” i.e., that the government’s stripping away of their “Arms” is not an end in itself but rather a means to an end. There is a belief that that “end” cannot be good and it certainly cannot be constitutional.
Citizens in general resent and fear the federal government which has embarked on a road of regulating and controlling very aspect of their private lives. The regulation goes down to the type of car, light bulb and energy they may purchase. It is dictating, including by armed force, the type of food they may produce, purchase and consume. It is taking their private property to give to other private concerns (not for public use) and what it does not physically take it restricts the purchase and sale to the point one is left with a hollow ownership on which they get the privilege of paying ever higher taxes to pay for the government’s abuse of the citizens rights.
The government has “… erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their substance…” (Obama Care “taxes” and 16,000 more IRS agents to enforce it) and through the passage of the citizen detention provisions of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act and other similar acts has ” … affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power….” including by applying the “law of war” to citizens “… depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury …” “declaring us out of [its] Protection and waging War against us…”, attempting to nullify the Bill of Rights and requirements of the Constitution and in essence stripping citizens of their citizenship, an act beyond the authority of the government in any incident.
In essence the government has through its acts declared war on the citizens of this country. It has set up a standing army within the territorial confines of the United States whose primary mission is to police “We the People”. Such an army has not been established in the U.S. since the civil war. It has arranged to bring in foreign troops to help it police U.S. citizens, yet another act of war upon us, and has pre-positioned within the U.S. military arms and military equipment by which to control the citizens of this country, another act of war against us.
We do ourselves no favors by sticking our heads in the sand rather than face up to what is apparent. There is a committed and persistent faction within our government that is preparing to go to war against our Constitution (Liberty) and they will push their agenda by force against “We the People” if they feel it is necessary.
One of the first acts of this rouge faction was to dismantle the pre-constitutional “Militia of the several States” and to create an Article I army to unconstitutionally replace the “Militia of the several States”. I suggest that one of the first things we need to restore in our effort to turn the Republic back over to “We the People” is the “Militia of the several States”.

Please note that our federal Congresspersons, Kevin Yoder, Mike Pompeo, Lynn Jenkins, Sen. Roberts and Sen. Moran voted against your Bill of Rights and to apply the “law of war” to you and your fellow citizens by voting for and not supporting amendments to the NDAA 2012. Let them know how that makes you feel.
(Jenkins sponsored and Yoder and Pompeo supported the Affordable Shoe act of 2012. Such sought to reduce tariffs on imported shoes (including Chinese made) to make it tougher on domestic shoe manufactures under the guise of bringing you more affordable shoes. “Affordable shoes” is more important to them than your Liberty! I guess its like the old saying goes “Bad shoes make for grumpy slaves.”)
Congressman Huelskamp, consistent with his duty and oath to support the Constitution, voted against the NDAA and tried to modify its unconstitutional provisions. Please tell him thanks for standing up for your Liberty.
