The Bank VI Hero of the Week is Ken DuBois of The Salina AMBUCS.
The main purpose of this organization is assisting youths with disabilities locally and statewide. Five years ago, a group from the local AMBUCS chapter started building wheelchair ramps for children who’s homes lacked safe access for them. DuBois was instrumental in the construction of many of these wheelchair ramps, including one he built for a White City teen. Until the ramp was constructed, her mother was forced to push her up and down the porch on a steep and dangerously short ramp. According to DuBois, both were very happy to be able to get in and out of their house safely.
Since the ramp program began, Ken and other AMBUC volunteers have constructed seventy nine wheelchair ramps. The AMBUCS pay for the materials and install the ramps at no cost.
DuBois says the AMBUCS is an amazing organization that he is proud to be a part of. “There is never a shortage of people who want to help, but we are always seeking others who would like to volunteer their time and talent,” said DuBois.
