gil50203vet_ffffffVincent M. Gill, 93, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015. He was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Abilene to Sotero and Eladia (Mendoza) Gill.

During World War II, Vincent served as a gunner’s mate in the United States Navy and took part in D-Day. He also was a boxer while in the Navy. He later became a lifetime VFW member and member of the blind bowling league. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and listening to sports games.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Toni (Garcia); son, Robert (Therese) Gill, of St. Mary’s, Ohio; three daughters, Rita Baghaie, of Golden, Colo., Rosanna (Jeff) O’Neil, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Linda Drew, of Bothell, Wash.; sisters, Margaret (Dr. Al) Mazzie, of San Francisco, Mary (Jesse) Anguiano, of Abilene, and Josephine Anguiano, of Hutchinson; brother, Mac (Helen) Gil, of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lions Club International Foundation and sent to Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

OSBORNE — Lena J. Woltje, 91, of Osborne, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Salina Regional Health Center. She was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Greenleaf, the daughter of Harvey and Elizabeth Woltje.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Woltje; two brothers, Otto and Arno; and three sisters, Ruth, Elma and Ruby.

Lena is survived by two daughters, Patti (Mike) Cotton and Mary (Kelly) Brent; three grandchildren, Michael W. Hicks, Randy A. Hicks and Jamie L. Brent; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan and John Hicks and Tegan A. and McKenzee L. Hicks; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Private family graveside services will be held in Greenleaf City Cemetery, Greenleaf.

Memorial donations may be made in Lena’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
