UPDATE: Vehicle Collides With Salina Church

UPDATE: Salina Police say a medical emergency was the cause of an early afternoon accident in which a vehicle collided with a Salina church.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells the Salina Post that 35-year-old Jeremy Lawson of Salina, was driving southbound on South Ohio just before 1:15 p.m. when the medical emergency occurred.

Lawson lost control of his vehicle, a white 2006 GMC Canyon, and veered left into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a curb, a tree, a light post, and then struck the south side of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 845 S. Ohio.

Sweeney said that Lawson suffered only minor injuries in the accident, and was primarily being treated for his medical condition.

Damage to the church has been estimated at $2,000.

First responders are on the scene of an accident at the Church of Latter Day Saints, 845 S. Ohio, in which a vehicle has struck the building.

According to reports, the driver may have suffered a seizure leading to the accident, which occurred at about 1:15 p.m.
