UPDATE: Semi Overturns at I-70/I-135 Junction

WreckUPDATE: No one was seriously injured when a semi overturned just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

The semi overturned just north of the I-70/I-135 junction near the northbound on ramp, where I-135 merges into US-81.  The semi was carrying a flatbed trailer with an over-sized railroad car at the time of the incident.  The Kansas Highway Patrol said the truck was westbound on I-70, when the driver exited onto the northbound lanes of US-81 driving too fast, causing the truck to roll onto it’s side.

The driver was treated at the scene by medics, but was not transported to the hospital.

The accident forced the closure of both northbound lanes of I-70. Traffic was re-routed to the 9th Street exit of I-70 while officials cleared the scene.

Original Story:

First responders are on the scene of an accident in the northbound lanes of Interstate 135, just north of the I-70 junction, in which a semi has overturned and is blocking both lanes of northbound traffic.

A spokesman with the Kansas Department of Transportation tells the Salina Post that both lanes of northbound traffic are closed near the scene.  All east and west bound I-70 traffic needing to exit at I-135 is being asked to exit at 9th Street, exit 252, and to re-route to K-143 via 9th Street.  Northbound traffic will need to exit at I-70 and proceed west to exit 252 and then proceed north on 9th Street to K-143 in order to rejoin US-81.

There has been no immediate word on injuries in connection with this accident.

The Salina Post will bring you more information as it becomes available.
