The Kansas City Chiefs announced the waiving of one player on Friday and the signing of another.
Waived was Defensive Back Kenneth Penny. Penny was originally signed by the club as an undrafted free agent out of UNLV.
The Chiefs also signed free agent Defensive Back Kevin Short. Short, who was a standout at Fort Scott Community College in 2012, transferred to the University of Kansas in 2013, where he was redshirted. He was later declared academically ineligible and left the school in September.
At 6’2″ and 190 pounds, Short went undrafted following this past Thursday’s supplemental draft and was signed to a free agent deal by the Chiefs. He will join the competition in the secondary, which will heat back up at the end of the month with the start of training camp.
The Chiefs recently lost another local defensive back a few weeks ago, when Pittsburg State’s DeVante Bausby broke his collar bone in a June 9th team practice.
