Near Drowning Monday Afternoon

Emergency Light BarA rural Salina teen was taken to the hospital late Monday afternoon after a near drowning.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said just before 6:00 p.m. deputies were sent to the 800 block of E. Frisbie Way. When deputies arrived, they found EMS crews administrating aid to 18-year-old old Zachary Upshaw.

Matthew Upshaw said Zachary had been cleaning the pool, and Mathew went inside the home for a few minutes.

When he returned he found Zachary in the pool face down. He pulled Zachary from the pool who was not breathing, and began to administer CPR.

Zachary began breathing and was taken to Salina Regional Health Center and admitted for observation. It’s not known how long Zachary had been in the pool or what had happened.
