Evelyn M. Holm was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Salina to Russel and Mable Snyder. Evelyn passed away July 18, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Salina and married C.C. (Swede) Holm Jr. in 1948.
They enjoyed 48 years together before his passing. Evelyn was mostly a stay-at-home mom, but during that time, she became nationally certified as a ceramics instructor and ceramics show judge. She also was very talented and enjoyed needlepoint, oil and watercolor painting, sewing and tailoring and playing her organ. Before her marriage to Swede, she held a number of different jobs including being a civilian truck driver at Smoky Hill Army Airfield during World War II, something she was especially proud of!
When she and Swede bought Holm Plumbing Co. in 1963, she also took over the bookkeeping and billing duties of the business, which she continued until they both retired.
She and Swede greatly enjoyed traveling after their retirement, as that offered them the opportunity to spend more time with family that was scattered around the country. After Swede passed, she traveled less, but she did continue their love of trips to the area casinos and playing her scratch lotto tickets!
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband; son, Steven; and grandson, Todd. Evelyn will be much missed by her entire family including her son, Randall Holm; daughter, Brenda (Ron) Garcia; grandson, Brian (Isabelle) Garcia; granddaughter, Jennifer (Tracey) Roberts; great-grandchildren, Courtney (Taylor) Brown, Nathan (Emily) Roberts and Nicholas (Michelle) Garcia; and her four great-great-grandchildren.
It was Evelyn’s wish to keep her interment as simple as possible, and as such, their will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at Roselawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will host a Celebration of Life, at Coyote Canyon, Salina, following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to MD Anderson Patient Out-Of-State Housing Fund or to a charity of the donors’ choice.
