UPDATE: A man has been arrested after police say he led law enforcement on a car chase through three counties, exceeding speeds of over 100 mph around the noon hour Sunday .
According to Saline County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Mike Smith, a deputy spotted 52-year-old Scott Mitchell Sunday, inside the van of someone the deputy was meeting for lunch at Coyote Canyon. Original Story:
Authorities have taken a man into custody after a high speed pursuit that began in Salina and ended in Ellsworth County. The pursuit began just before 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning and ended just over a half hour later.
The suspect, who was wanted for a vehicle burglary, fled after being caught by the vehicle’s owner during the commission of the burglary. Police spotted his vehicle, a white Nissan Versa, near the Central Mall. The suspect did not stop after emergency lights were activated.
The suspect drove through the Indian Village area in west Salina, north on Centennial from Republic and then west on Crawford. From there, he led officers north on Hedville Road. The suspect then took Hedville Road to Interstate 70, where he then headed west.
The chase would remain on I-70, hitting speeds of 110 mph, before the suspect hit stop spikes near mile post 226 in Ellsworth County. The spikes blew out two tires of the vehicle and the chase finally came to a conclusion near mile post 221.
The man was taken into custody without further incident at that location. He will likely face multiple charges. His name was not immediately available.
Law enforcement officers from Saline County, Ellsworth County and the Kansas Highway Patrol were involved in the pursuit.
