Salina Police say a 24-year-old man, stopped late Thursday afternoon in a traffic stop, apparently shot himself in the leg.

A police officer stopped a car driven by Shane D. McMillin at about 5:30 p.m. in the 600 block of S. 5th, after the officer believed McMillin was possibly wanted on a warrant.

When McMillin got out of the car, officers noticed he had a gunshot wound above his left knee. A resident near the traffic stop thought they had heard a gunshot about the time the traffic stop occurred.

McMillin was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of the wound and then booked into the Saline County Jail on drug charges and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Officers recovered a handgun and personal use amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana, and mushrooms.
