TOPEKA, Kan. – In the spirit of the giving season, Capitol Federal® drew the first winner of its “Grand Giving” contest. This contest awards three lucky individuals with $1,000 and the opportunity to pay-it-forward with an additional $1,000 awarded to the local non-profit of their choice.
The first winner was Debra Cather from Salina, Kansas. Debra was presented with her $1,000 by Salina Branch Manager Jake Wise. The charity she chose to give $1,000 was the Salina Rescue Mission. “I wanted to give to a local organization,” said Debra. “They do good work for homeless men in the community by providing clothes, food and shelter. They’re a great local charity.”
Steve Kmetz, Executive Director of the Salina Rescue Mission echoed Debra’s comments. “Since 1981, the Salina Rescue Mission has been providing a ‘hand up’ to men who have lost their way. Our services include: a safe, clean shelter, 3-meals per day, clothing, and Christian programs such as our chapel services, Guest Employment Program and New Life Program. Last year, we provided more than 23,000 nights of shelter and served more than 48,000 meals. We thank Capitol Federal for this generous gift of support to our ministry!”
“Capitol Federal is pleased to say thank you to the Salina community,” said Jake Wise, Salina Branch Manager. “We are thrilled to present our ‘Grand Giving’ gifts to our winner, Debra, and to the charity of her choice, the Salina Rescue Mission. CapFed® is happy to celebrate the season with a gift for our winner and a dedicated non-profit organization that makes a real difference.”
