WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) voted to pass common sense legislation to stop admission of Syrian and Iraqi refugees to the United States until an effective standard for screening and monitoring these refugees has been established. H.R. 4038 American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015 is a first step in strengthening the vetting system for those seeking the privilege of admission to the U.S.
Earlier this week, Huelskamp signed a letter with over 100 other members of Congress demanding President Obama take action to protect American citizens.
Congressman Huelskamp released the following statement on these refugees coming to the U.S.:
“Since President Obama’s announcement in September to allow more Syrian and Iraqi refugees into our country, I’ve maintained that the threat of people posing as refugees to commit terrorist attacks on our nation’s soil is not something to be ignored.
“Our first priority must be our own citizens. While our country has a history of welcoming those in need with open arms, we simply cannot allow ISIS the chance to seep into the U.S. unfiltered. We must secure our borders and prioritize Christian refugees who face martyrdom at the hands of Islamic jihadists because of their faith.”
