Introducing Tammie McArthur, your BANK VI Hero of the Week!
Tammie was nominated because, according to her friend Debra Blomquist, she is on a mission to make sure everyone has a better life!
This past November, Tammie organized a blanket drive that collected over 190 blankets that were all donated to people in need in Salina, including patients at the Salina Regional Health Center. Tammie has organized this drive for the past four years.
Tammie also founded the Salina Alzheimer’s Board, a non-profit local group designed to bring awareness to the disease. The group also collects donations to assist those affected by Alzheimer’s. As part of her activities with the organization, Tammie coordinated a poker run that raised over $130,000 to benefit local families impacted by Alzheimer’s.
Tammie also spent time at the Salina Walmart this past December collecting donations for the Salina Food Bank. More than half a trailer of food was donated to the Food Bank as a result of Tammie’s efforts.
Late last year, Tammie also collected items such as furnishings, clothes, and even Christmas gifts to a single mother and her four children that lost their home and possessions in a house fire.
For Tammie, the reason for all her efforts to help those in the community is pretty simple. “There’s a need,” she said.
According to Blomquist, the world could use a few more Tammie McArthur’s. “She’s our super hero,” she said.
