Trauma Training – Monday, April 23

Stuck: Understanding Trauma, the Brain, and Trauma-Informed Care

This 3-hour CEU includes a presentation by DVACK Advocate Courtney Train on the neurological, physical, and behavioral role of trauma and abuse during childhood and adulthood. A trauma panel will follow, featuring representatives from Salina Police Department, Central Kansas Mental Health Center, Sexual Assault Forensic Examination, Cornerstone Clinic, and Central Kansas Foundation.

Main Presentation Learning Objectives: The goal of this presentation is to provide information about how trauma, abuse, and adversity during childhood and adulthood affects the brain and behaviors. Additionally, information will be provided about the crisis cycle and emotional agility. Learn about best practices for trauma-informed care and increasing therapeutic capacities in direct service.

Community Panel Learning Objectives: The panel’s goals are to identify what trauma looks like from different aspects of the community; to address how we, as a community, respond to trauma; and to continue conversation about trauma-informed care.
