Motorcycle sideswiped a car on I-70

The Sheriff’s office is investigating an injury accident that involved a motorcycle and a car on Saturday night.

According to Sheriff Roger Soldan, deputies responded to an accident that occurred on May 5, around 6:05 p.m. at the interchange of I-135 and I- 70. A semi was exiting the cloverleaf. As the semi was merging into traffic, there were some motorcycles traveling westbound at the same time.

One of the motorcycle riders was driving a 2017  silver Harley Davidson Electra Glide, noticed the semi merging. The motorcycle switched lanes in front of a car to avoid the semi.   The car, a 2005 Mazda 323, was in the passing lane and tried to avoid the motorcycle but they sideswiped. The driver and passenger on the motorcycle went to the pavement.

The driver David Drake, 54 of Emporia and the passenger, Tracy Smith, 49 of Lawrence were transported to the hospital by Salina EMS. They both were treated for road rash and cuts. The driver and passenger of the Mazda were not injured.

The accident is under investigation.
