Louise Appleby

Louise Appleby, 87, longtime resident of Salina, and most recently at her son’s home in Cedar City, Utah, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018, St. George, Utah. Louise was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Shipton.

She was associated with the Shaver Partnership Architects and then with Appleby & Marsh Architects, as well as a regional manager for Midwest Exhibitors, before retiring in 2006.

She was a lifelong resident of the Salina area and one of the few remaining Kansas residents who rode to grade school on horseback, on her favorite horse, Captain! She began her education in a one-room schoolhouse in Shipton. She attended Salina’s Sacred Heart High School and Brown Mackie School of Business.

From the beginning, Louise excelled in the business community with her business expertise as well as a homemaker. Her family and friends were always a priority to her as was traveling and cooking for family and holiday gatherings.

Louise loved her family and was very devoted to them. She will be missed and always cherished and loved by her family and friends. Louise Antoinnette Appleby will now be joining her loving husband, Leslie V. Appleby. They were married for 33 years, before his death in 2009.

Survivors include: her sister, Janette Wilcox (Don), of Salina; brother, Don Giersch, of Salina; brother-in-law, Bob Dohnmeir, of Salina; one daughter, Vicki Winter, of Salina; two sons, Steve Thyfault, of Cedar City, Utah, and Bryan Appleby, of Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren, Morgan Jones, Micah Jones, Cairn (Appleby) Kornman, Kent Appleby, Keith and Kyle; and five great-grandchildren, Kaylee Jones, Annabel Appleby, Emma Biehler, Olivia Jones and Wyatt Kornman.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Antoinnette Giersch; brother, Johnny Giersch; sister, Annie Dohnmeir; Louise’s husband, Leslie V. Appleby; former husband, Veryl Thyfault; and her daughter, Linda Maroney.

There will be a vigil and rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June, 19, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, KS 67401

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.
