Marie Louise Bertsch Strunk, 93, was born August 6, 1925 at rural Carlton, KS. She died August 13, 2018. Her parents were Lena (Magdelina) Randecker Bertsch and Christian Bertsch.

Marie attended Scotia Grade School, graduated from Dickinson County Community High School (Chapman) in 1943, and Marymount College (Salina) in 1960. She taught in Dickinson County Schools for 33 years.

On June 1, 1946 Marie married Melvin John Strunk. As a youth, Marie was a member of Mt Pleasant Presbyterian Church. After their marriage, Marie joined Melvin as a life-long member of New Basel United Church of Christ.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, and her parents.

She is survived by her two children: Judith Ann Bowser (Tom) (Olathe, KS), and Jon Chris Strunk (Susan) (Neosho Rapids, KS); her 4 grandchildren: Christopher Bowser (Lisa) (Prairie Village, KS), Beth Ann Bowser Scruggs (Todd) (Tulsa, OK), Chase Strunk (Trisha) (Lawrence, KS), and Shawn Strunk (Kansas City); her 4 great grandchildren: Ellen Marie and Anne Bowser; Maggie and Andrew Scruggs, her two sisters: Ruth Glatt (Overland Park, KS) and Elisabeth Mason (Marmaduke, AR) and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held for Marie 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at New Basel UCC, 1075 1100 Ave, Abilene KS. 

In lieu of flowers, Marie’s family suggests donations to the New Basel UCC Scholarship Fund in care of New Basel Church, 1075 1100 Ave, Abilene, KS 67410 or any charity of your choice.
