HILLSBORO – The Swedes volleyball team suffered another heartbreaking loss Saturday as they traveled for the non-conference matchup with Tabor College. Bethany fell 3-1; 19-25, 25-21, 15-25, and 19-25.

Bethany stayed right with the Bluejays trading points until Tabor took a couple mid-set runs to give them a six point lead and an eight point lead and some cushion to finish out the set. However, in the second set the play stayed back and forth with neither team gaining too much on the other, until the end when the Swedes were able to pull out a win.

Unfortunately, Tabor rebounded from this loss with a force. They came out strong and with the help of a seven-point rally in the middle of the set, easily took game three. But the Swedes were not going to lay down that easily. They picked themselves up in the fourth set, making the Bluejays fight for every point until they were able to finally take the set, and the match.

The details
Two Swedes were in double digits in the kills category today; Jordan Valentine, freshman middle, led the team with 15 kills and just two errors. She hit a .619 on the day. Meanwhile, Nakajeya Massenburg, freshman hitter, picked up 10 kills of her own. As has become a regular occurrence, Ivona Vojvodic, junior setter, commanded the Bethany offense with her 34 assists on the day. Vojvodic also added four service aces and nine digs to her line tonight.

Leading the Bethany defense was Haley Reifsteck, sophomore libero. The sophomore picked up 12 digs throughout the match.

Up next
The Swedes come home to look for their first win in their first contest on their home court on Wednesday. Bethany will take on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 7 p.m. inside Hahn Gymnasium.
