Shots fired in northwest Salina; person of interest sought

Shots fired Monday night damaged a northwest Salina house.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that an officer was in the 200 block of South Broadway when at approximately 10:20 p.m. he heard several gunshots to the east of his location. As he started that way, police began receiving numerous reports of shots fired from a house in the 400 block of South Phillips. The officer made contact with a female there who was outside the house. He then made contact with a male coming out of the house. Forrester said that at that point, the officer observed a black male at the rear of the house who took off to the east through backyards.

Forrester said police found four 9mm shell casings on the porch of the house. They also discovered that four rounds had struck the house and garage directly across the street. No one was injured in the house that was struck, he added. Damage was to the exterior and interior front doors, three walls, and one window in the house and a window and wall in the attached garage, Forrester said.

Police are looking for a person of interest in the incident, he said.
