Teen arrested after fire in church

A 13-year-old Salina girl was taken into custody after a fire in a local church Sunday.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday at the First Church of God, 1311 Meyer Drive in east Salina, according to Salina Police Detective Sergeant David Villanueva. He said that church members were able to extinguish the fire in the women’s restroom before it spread to the rest of the building.

The girl was arrested on 12 counts of aggravated arson, Villanueva said.

Salina Police are working with the Salina Fire Department in an ongoing investigation related to this incident, he said.
