The National Weather Service office in Wichita (NWSW) has issued additional flood warnings for the Salina area.

Mulberry Creek
NWSW forecasts major flooding for Mulberry Creek. Flood stage is 24 feet and NWSW expects Mulberry Creek to rise above flood stage by late Tuesday morning and continue to rise to near 27.6 feet by Tuesday evening.

According to NWSW, the impact is that at 27.7 feet, roads flood up to three feet of water in northern Salina, mostly around Stimmel Road and south from Ninth Street to Ohio Street. Within that area, expect over 200 homes and businesses to become flooded. Other flooding may occur north of Interstate 70 (I-70) from Ninth Street to Ohio Street. The westbound entrance ramp onto I-70 from Ninth Street will most likely be flooded.”

Saline River
A flood warning for the Saline River near Lincoln has been issued by NWSW from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 8:48 p.m. Thursday. Flood stage is 30 feet and minor flooding is forecast. The Saline River is expected to rise to near 32.1 feet by Wednesday morning.

According to NWSW, at 32 feet, “The lowlands around the gauge site begin to flood. Much of this lowland is cultivated land.”

Smoky Hill River
A flood warning has been issued for the Smoky Hill River at New Cambria from 7:21 p.m. Tuesday to 1:51 a.m. Friday. Flood stage is 27 feet and moderate flooding at New Cambria is forecast. The Smoky Hill River is expected to rise to near 31 feet by Wednesday evening, NWSW noted. According to NWSW, the impact in Saline County is that at 31 feet, “all roads leading into New Cambria become flooded. Old Highway 40 between Marymount Road and Whitmore Road is closed due to flood waters.”

At Mentor, NWSW has issued a flood warning for the Smoky Hill River from 1:51 p.m. Tuesday through 8:41 p.m. Wednesday. Flood stage is 20 feet and minor flooding at Mentor is forecast. The Smoky Hill River is expected to rise to near 20.7 feet by early Wednesday afternoon, NWSW noted. According to NWSW, the impact is that at 20 feet, flood waters overflow the banks and agricultural fields upstream from Bridgeport to Assaria. Lowland flooding can be expected in the vicinity of the river. A portion of the bike trail near Bill Burke Park in Salina floods.”

At Ellsworth, moderate flooding is expected on the Smoky Hill River. The flood warning in Ellsworth County is from 4:13 p.m. Tuesday until 2:07 a.m. Thursday. Flood stage is 20 feet, and NWSW expects the river to rise to near 21.4 feet by Wednesday morning. The impact, according to NWSW, is that at 21 feet, “about 100 feet south of the Highway 14 bridge the road becomes flooded.”

At Lindsborg, minor flooding along the Smoky Hill River is expected. The flood warning is in effect from 6:41 p.m. Tuesday to 2:24 p.m. Wednesday. Flood stage is 21 feet, and NWSW expects the Smoky Hill River to rise near 21.4 feet by early Wednesday morning. The impact, according to NWSW, is that at 21 feet, “the south bank overflows extend out to 20 feet from bank. Old Mill Park floods along with low lying fields in rural areas.”

Additionally, a flood watch remains in effect for the entire area until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
