NWSW: 1-3 inches of snow possible for area

A cold rain will turn to snow across portions of central Kansas on Sunday, especially along the Interstate 70 corridor, the National Weather Service office in Wichita (NWSW) is forecasting.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible in this area. Further south, a rain and snow mix cannot be ruled out across south central and southeast Kansas by Sunday evening.

Additionally, a widespread freeze is possible areawide early next week with record or near-record temperatures possible.

Following is the long-range forecast from NWSW.

Saturday
A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. South wind 6 to 11 mph.

Saturday Night
Showers likely, mainly after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Sunday
Rain before 11 a.m., then rain and snow between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., then snow after 1 p.m. High near 40. Breezy, with a north wind 14 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Sunday Night
Snow, mainly before 8 p.m. Low around 27. North wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 42.
