Police investigating 19 damage to property cases

Salina police are investigating 19 reported cases of damage to property in two areas of Salina.

The reported incidents occurred between 4 p.m. on Monday and 8:15 a.m. Thursday in east Salina and south Salina, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday. The east Salina incidents were in the area of Queens, Brookwood, and Beachwood, while the south Salina incidents were in the Marc, Lewis, and Quincy area, he said.

Most of the damage to property was to vehicle windows, however a window on the door of a house also was damaged, Forrester said. Much of the damage was done by golf balls being thrown through windows, however in one instance, a billiard ball was thrown through a window, and in several others, a hammer was believed to be used to break windows, Forrester explained.

The total damage was estimated at approximately $9,000, he added.

Forrester said the incidents may be related to two recent burglaries, as a red Dodge pickup with a silver-colored toolbox was seen in the area of some of the incidents. On Wednesday, Forrester reported on two burglaries that were believed to be connected. Related to the second of the two burglaries was the sighting of a red pickup with a silver-colored toolbox that went around the block several times and then pulled into the alley behind the house that was robbed, he said.

Forrester said Friday that police did have some leads in the cases and were reviewing surveillance video from some of the damage to property incidents.
