People all over Salina have taken to social media wondering what the shaking and loud noise was shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

People reported a noise that sounded like “a truck hitting my house,” “a tree falling on my house,” and “an explosion.”

The closest earthquake to Salina was a 2.8 magnitude temblor that was recorded north-northeast of Cherokee, Oklahoma, at 9:13 a.m. Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Saline County Emergency Management Director Hannah Stambaugh said Saturday afternoon that what was felt and heard in Salina could have been an aftershock to the quake in Oklahoma. Stambaugh encouraged those who felt the shaking and/or heard the noise to report it on the USGS website. Click here to report it.
