A Gypsum teen was taken to Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC) Friday afternoon after a car he was driving was struck as it pulled onto Kansas Highway 4 (K-4).

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said Monday that as Eric Thompson, 16, of Gypsum, was driving a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville onto K-4 from a private drive, the car was struck on the driver’s side by an eastbound Ford F350 pickup driven by Jack Fleming, 68, of Hope.

Soldan said the accident occurred approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday in the 7200 block of K-4 in southeast Saline County.

Thompson was taken by a private vehicle to SRHC for an injury to his arm, Soldan said.

The front end of the pickup also was damaged.

The Pontiac suffered extensive front-end damage, he added.
