Salina man arrested on drug charges after failing to stop at stop sign

Not stopping at a stop sign proved costly for a 26-year-old Salina man.

According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, officers were in the 200 block of North Santa Fe at approximately 5:23 a.m. Sunday when they saw a white 2012 Honda Civic in the westbound lane of Elm fail to stop at the stop sign at Elm and Santa Fe and turn north.

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which continued north on Santa Fe, west on Woodland and north on Seventh before finally stopping at Seventh and Pacific, Forrester said. The vehicle traveled at speeds of 30-35 mph, he added.

Forrester said the driver, Dylan Shomaker, of Salina, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Shomaker was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, flee and elude, failure to stop at a stop sign, and trafficking contraband into a police facility, Forrester said. The trafficking charge came about when a pipe was found while Shomaker was being booked into jail, Forrester explained.
