Stolen Terrain, parked F150 damaged in hit-and-run

An early morning report of a hit-and-run turned into more upon further investigation.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday that officers were called to the 900 block of East Claflin for the report of a hit-and-run incident at 1:30 a.m. Friday. A vehicle headed westbound on Claflin struck a parked 2006 Ford F150 pickup, doing disabling damage to the tailgate and back driver’s side tire, he said. The crash awoke the owner of the pickup, Larry Quinn, who called police, Forrester said. The vehicle that struck the pickup fled the scene, he said.

Officers searched the area for the other vehicle involved in the accident. They were flagged down by someone who reported an abandoned vehicle parked in the dead end of Kensington Road, Forrester said. There they found a 2016 black GMC Terrain with heavy front-end damage, he said. The vehicle, valued at $17,000, had to be towed, Forrester added.

Forrester said officers contacted the registered owner, Lori McNelly, 2255 Quincy, who said the Terrain was last parked in her driveway at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Forrester said the keys were left in the vehicle.
