UPDATED 8:35 p.m. Sunday: The 2018 Toy A Thon is in the books and 5,125 toys are loaded in the Doug Bradley trailer to await distribution to nine area organizations!

After collecting 2,601 toys by the end of the first day, the Toy A Thon collection picked up additional steam on Sunday.

99KG’s Shane McClintock told Salina Post earlier this afternoon that the collection bins at Walmart, 2900 S. Ninth, were being emptied multiple times per hour, a testament to local and area shoppers’ holiday generosity.

In fact, one person showed up with a pickup load of toys, McClintock said.

McClintock and the 99KG gang set up their tent and collection bins on Saturday at Walmart for the annual Toy A Thon. They plan to remain there, even staying overnight, until 5,000 toys are collected for area children in need.

The Marine Corp League, Saline County Sheriff’s Office, and Salina Police Department also are helping with the event.

All toys collected will be distributed among nine area agencies.

Saline County Sheriff’s Deputy Rector recruited a great helper to distribute information about the Toy A Thon.

Salina Police Chief Brad Nelson, second from left, and Officer Kyle Tonniges, joined McClintock and Cabana for the Toy A Thon.
