The annual Storm Fury on the Plains weather and safety presentation could become dust in the wind, should the partial government shutdown continue into February.

Sponsored by Saline County Emergency Management, the annual presentation is conducted by National Weather Service personnel.

“The current federal government shutdown may force the cancellation of this presentation,” Saline County Emergency Management noted in information about the upcoming presentation.

Storm Fury on the Plains is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the auditorium of Salina High School South, 730 E. Magnolia. It is open to the public at no charge. No prior experience is required, and there is no registration necessary to attend. The presentation is expected to last between one-and-a-half and two hours.

Attendees will be taught the basics of thunderstorm development, storm structure, and what features to look for as well as basic severe weather safety tips. This is an interactive multi-media presentation.
