Salina police are investigating two residential burglaries that happened within a few hours on Thursday in the east part of the city.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday that police were first called to the 700 block of Fairdale at 11 a.m.

Forrester said that when Brennan Soukup, 27, 730 Fairdale, returned to his residence after being away for a short time, he saw a black male dressed in all black in his living room. When Soukup walked in, the intruder pulled a ski mask over his face, grabbed a Gateway laptop valued at $100, stuck the laptop in a bag and exited the residence, Forrester said.

He said Soukup saw the man walk north on Fairdale, then a short time later, a silver vehicle moving at a high rate of speed went south on Fairdale.

Forrester said a sliding glass door at the residence had been damaged when it was pried open. Total loss, including the laptop and damage to the door, is $600, he added.

In the second incident, police responded to the report of a burglary at 117 N. Estates Drive at 1:30 p.m. Forrester said that when Joshua and Jacob Balthazor, both 21, returned home, a girl who was with them saw someone inside the residence. The intruder then exited the residence through an exterior basement door, Forrester said. The intruder was described as wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans, he added.

Items taken include a PlayStation 4 Star Wars edition (valued at $150), an Oculus Rift headset (valued at $400), an Xbox One (valued at $200), and an unknown amount of jewelry belonging to Rebecca Balthazor, 70, also of the residence, Forrester said.

Both burglaries remain under investigation.
