Albert E. Herron

INMAN — Albert E. Herron, 83, formerly of Salina, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019. He was born July 15, 1935, in Mangum, Okla., to Rev. Guy and Essie (Law) Herron.

Albert proudly served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years. He was a jump master and combat engineer, serving one tour in Korea and two in Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and twice the Combat Infantry Badge. He was also awarded The Soldier’s Medial, the highest honor a soldier can receive for an act of valor in a non-combat situation, for rescuing two elderly people from a burning house. After retiring Albert enjoyed many hobbies including fishing and woodworking.

Albert is survived by: his children, Mark Shane Herron (Kathy), William Blaine Herron (Deb), and Heather Herron, all of Salina; numerous grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: his wife, of 34 years, Beverly; parents; daughter, Alane; two sisters; and a brother.

Visitation will be Noon-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at Ryan Mortuary, with burial in Belleville City Cemetery.
