Howard Melvin Cooper

Howard Melvin Cooper was born May 11, 1930 in Glen Elder, Kansas, the son of Wilmer and Violet Phillips Cooper. He died Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 88.

Howard grew up in the Glen Elder area, where he attended school before graduating from Glen Elder High School in 1948.

On August 24, 1952, he was united in marriage with Lois Moran. Two sons were born to this union, Michael Alan and Bruce Howard. This union later dissolved. On March 14, 1970, he was married to Patty Jean Fulhage, and they were privileged to spend nearly 49 years of marriage together.

Howard served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and after basic training in Camp Chaffee in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, was stationed in Tokyo.

He was a member of the Glen Elder Christian Church, and later the Beloit First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post #6242.

Howard served as the Mayor of Glen Elder for eight years, and worked for Cunningham Cable for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Howard is survived by his wife Patty of the home; two sons, Mike and his wife Tammy of Beloit, and Bruce of Beloit; brother, Roderick of Glen Elder; four grandchildren, Michelle and husband Trent Harr, Pepper and husband Jeff Roberg, and Alex and Porsche Cooper; three great grandchildren, Dairiahna Harr, and Lexie and Courtney Roberg; one great grandson, Knox Harr-Loomis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, February 13 at the Beloit First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 6-7 PM Tuesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church.
