UPDATED 5 p.m. Friday: A winter storm warning is replacing the watch. See the story here.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Salina Area and much of Kansas.
For our area, the watch is in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.
A fast-moving, but impactful, weather system will bring a period of moderate to potentially heavy snow Saturday evening through Sunday morning. The snow will be followed by breezy conditions, some blowing snow, and potentially dangerously cold wind chill values.
Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible with this storm, though what areas will get how much is still not clear. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, especially along and east of the Kansas Turnpike.
Plan on slippery and snow-covered roads. For those planning to travel this weekend, please monitor the forecast to and from your destination. Areas of blowing snow are likely on Sunday, especially along and east of the Kansas Turnpike.
Be sure to keep an eye on this storm. If you have to travel on Saturday, you can check road conditions at kandrive.org.
