Motorcycle, car collide; Salina man taken to hospital

A Salina man was transported to Salina Regional Health Center after a motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in downtown Salina Tuesday.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Wednesday that Riley Faris, 23, was riding a 1986 Harley Davidson Wide Glide motorcycle southbound on Fifth Street when he collided with a 2014 Kia Soul that was attempting to turn left onto Iron Avenue from the northbound lane of Fifth Street. The Kia was driven by Aymet Demara, 23, of Maricopa, Arkansas, he said. The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Faris suffered an injury to his right foot as well as several scrapes, Forrester said. The motorcycle, which struck the rear passenger side of the Kia and suffered extensive front end damage, had to be towed, he added.

Demara was not injured and although the Kia was damaged where the motorcycle collided with it, it was able to be driven from the scene, Forrester said.

Demara was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way when making a left-hand turn and Faris was cited for not having electric turn signals on the motorcycle, Forrester said.
