Ballet Salina has announced auditions for its fall production of The Nutcracker with the Salina Symphony.
The ballet will make its debut on November 22 and 24 in the Stiefel Theatre, 151 S. Santa Fe. All area dancers are invited to participate.
Dancer auditions will be held at Tamara Howe School of Dance on May 20. Auditions are open to all local dancers who will be enrolled in a ballet technique class at their home studio during the 2019-2020 season. Audition times are as follows: dancers ages 5-7 will audition from 4:30-5:15 p.m.; ages 8-11 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; and ages 12+ from 6:30-8 p.m. Dancers en pointe should bring pointe shoes.

Rehearsals for the production will be held on Saturday afternoon’s beginning in August and will continue through the fall. A choreography clinic will be held July 24-28, including afternoon and evening rehearsals based on roles.
Ballet Salina is designed to increase exposure to and appreciation for classical performance arts in the community as well as to provide opportunities to local are youth to gain training that mirrors that of the professional world.
Ballet Salina is the creation of Tamara Howe, owner and director of the Tamara Howe School of Dance. Tamara Howe serves as the executive director of Ballet Salina. Mara Klenda serves as the artistic director of Ballet Salina.
Ballet Salina is open for ages 7 and up. Students must be enrolled in a ballet class at their home studio. Tuition and costumes are dependent upon shows and certain roles within those shows. Ballet Salina produces 1-2 shows during the school year and a summer production with the Salina Public Library.
Ballet Salina will also be hosting the Ballet Experience Workshop this summer for ages 7 and up. Students will be immersed in a week-long camp experience in which they will study technique, variations, stage make-up, and learn choreography from a well-known ballet. The end of the week will commence with an in-studio performance of their work. Students may register on-line at www.balletsalina.com.
