A vehicle burglary early last weekend turned into much more.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Monday that Brian Kinnaird, 45, of Salina, reported to police that sometime between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, someone got into his 2015 Toyota Camry in the 700 block of East Neal and stole the following items.
- A vaping pen
- Vape juice
- A Ruger P89 and ammunition
- A holster for the Ruger
The total loss was estimated at $405, Forrester said. There was no damage to the vehicle and Kinnaird told police it is possible that he left the vehicle unlocked, Forrester added.
Then on Sunday night, police were called to the 800 block of Navaho where a mother reported that her 16-year-old son was threatened by Benjamin Swanson, 17, of Salina, via Snapchat, Forrester said. In the Snapchat video, Swanson was seen in possession of a handgun, Forrester added.
Officers went to Swanson’s residence and met with Swanson and his father, Forrester said. While there, the officers located the Ruger P89 stolen from Kinnaird’s vehicle, Forrester added.
Swanson was arrested on suspicion of criminal threat, possession of a stolen firearm, and criminal use of a weapon, Forrester said.
