Local store gets new name, makeover

The faces and the desire to help are the same, but the look and name are new for a longtime Salina store.

Sunflower Carpet One Floor & Home is now Sunflower Carpet Plus. Still located at 2555 Market Place, the store that helps with floor makeovers throughout the area is getting a makeover of its own.

“We are updating everything, including all new products,” said Bernie Burghart, who with Dave Rutz, co-manages Sunflower Carpet Plus.

Burghart said the store has increased its inventory, including more cash and carry stock. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring — snap together flooring — continues to grow in popularity, Burghart said.

“It’s easy to maintain and has a real natural look, not shiny like it used to,” Burghart said.

Supersoft carpets also are popular, he said.

“People like to feel that supersoft carpet under their feet, especially in the bedroom,” Burghart explained.

Burghart noted that Sunflower Carpet Plus is not a big box store.

“We still do free measurements and we help folks make decisions about their floors,” he said. “Dave and I have close to 40 years apiece in the business. We’re not high-pressure people. We just want to help.”

Burghart encouraged people to stop by and see the new-look store, regardless of whether they are looking for carpet or flooring.

“Just come on in and take a look around. Have a cup of coffee, even. You’ll see a big difference when you come in,” he said.
