A stop for an expired 60-day tag led to much more early Thursday morning on Interstate 135.
Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Jim Hughes said Thursday that Sarah Branstetter, 23, of Wichita, was southbound on I-135 when she was pulled over at 1:55 a.m. Thursday just south of Salina for having an expired 60-day tag on the white Chevrolet Tracker she was driving. While talking with her, the deputy discovered that Branstetter had a suspended drivers license, he said.
Sheriff’s Office K-9 Officer Maggie was called in and detected the odor of narcotics, Hughes said. A search of the vehicle revealed a half gram of cocaine, 10 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, Hughes said.
According to Hughes, Branstetter was arrested on suspicion of the following.
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Driving while suspended
- License tag violation
- No proof of insurance
